Here's one more sign that spring is around the corner.
It's almost one month until the first test and tune of the season!!!!
April 1, (seriously, not April fools!)
If you've never been to a test and tune at Gateway, it is simply an event that is open to anyone and everyone who has ever dreamed about drag racing their street cars. Maybe you've got a grudge to settle against a certain GM "ponycar" or anyone else that is silly enough to drive anything other than a mustang.
The racing itself is on a very open format, you do have to go through a vehice technicial inspection, the inspection itself usually does not take very long if you are close to being stock, it will take longer if there are any more extreme modifications, *cough* my car *cough, cough.* Anyway it is suggested to get there early because the later you get there the longer the tech inspection line gets. You don't want to get there at 7pm and have to wait in line for an hour. Once you have gone through tech inspection you will sign a release form (of course) and then you go back around and get into the staging lanes. Once you get up to the starting line you will be told when to pull up to the line and stage. You will be started from the tree. Once you get down the track you exit to the right and head back toward the staging lanes, but make sure you stop and get your time slip. You're going to need it for bragging rights!
That is a pretty simple explanation, but it really is that simple. It can be a little intimidating the first time down the track, but after that you will be hooked.
I hope we can get a group together and make it to one of these test and tunes. It is a fun, safe, and legal way of finding out just what your car can do.
But you don't have to have a car to have fun, there is plenty of people that come and spectate(<-spelling ?). I will unfortunetly have to be a spectator for a little while longer. I don't think the 69 is going to be ready to race by April 1.
Oh I forgot to mention one more important note, there is a $20 cost to race your car or a $10 cost to spectate.
But if anyone is interested post a reply and see if we can possible get something together. There are a couple of fast food restaurants across from the track if people want to meet there for dinner before the racing.
What do you think?
